In New Zealand almost all Fire Sprinkler Systems are installed in accordance with NZ Standard 4541 or 4515, which identify the requirements for certification by a Sprinkler System Certifier (SSC). There is currently more than one SSC in New Zealand.

Fire Protection Inspection Services Ltd have accredited staff throughout New Zealand who undertake all the respective inspections and testing associated with proving the effectiveness of a fire sprinkler system, and recommends to the SSC to issue a Certificate of Compliance.

Sprinkler systems are the best means of providing life safety in buildings. They also give advantages in construction so that the fire resistance of structural elements and fire cell separations can be reduced. This can make the installation of fire sprinklers cost effective.

Life safety, particularly in hospitals and rest homes are dependant on effective fire protection and fire sprinklers allow for staged or partial evacuation.

The Approved Sprinkler Contractor, the Fire Engineer, your Sprinkler System Certifier, and Fire Protection Inspection Services Ltd work together to certify compliant systems, and ensure that the fire sprinkler system will work as designed and will provide the occupants and their property the protection required.
